Corrections and clarifications

* * In a report “Barak probe stalls project” (May 21, 2008, page 1), the eighth paragraph was “Among the projects Israel is a strong contender [for] are submerged launched vehicles for the navy, micro guns for the army, autonomous and towed artillery systems to replace the Bofors guns, weapons for the Special Forces, precision guided missile and bomb guidance kits.” It should have been submerged launch vehicles.

* * The third paragraph in “Cherie Blair and her tell-all memoirs” (Op-Ed, May 21, 2008) was “What they have found particularly distasteful is her lengthy description of the circumstances (written with titillating glee) which led to the birth of her youngest child Leo while the Blairs were spending a bitterly cold winter weekend at Blamoral Castle, as the Queen’s guests.” It should have been Balmoral Castle. (Balmoral is today best known as a royal residence, the summer retreat of Queen Elizabeth II and the Duke of Edinburgh. Its history as a royal residence dates back to 1848.)

* * A sentence in the seventh paragraph of an article “How to respond to global food crisis” (Op-Ed, May 19, 2008) was “On my rough estimate, every dollar of food aid could feed another one million children if the tying requirement is eliminated (just from the saving in increased shipping and distribution costs).” Dr. Arvind Subramanian clarifies that it was a typographical error and should just read, “the food aid commitments made by the Administration would, on my rough calculations, feed another million children ….”

* * In a report “Mumbai takes on Kings XI Punjab” (“Sport”, May 21, 2008), the name of opening batsman Shaun Edward Marsh was missing from the team Kings XI Punjab. The Sports Desk clarifies that his name features in the preview, but was left out of the team list by mistake.
