Boys fare better in entrance tests

ACHIEVERS: Deric Mathew Suresh and Kevin John John who topped the engineering and medical entrance examinations respectively.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Deric Mathew Suresh of Changanassery has secured the first rank in engineering and Kevin John John of Chalakkudy has topped the medical stream in the entrance examinations held for admission to professional courses in the State in April.

The results were announced by Education Minister M.A. Baby here on Wednesday evening.

While all the first five ranks in engineering were bagged by boys, Varsha Mathews, who got the fifth rank, emerged as the lone female winner among the first five rank-holders in medicine. M.V. Jairaj, Neeraj Surendran, Subhro Kanti Bera, and A.J. Akash won the first four ranks in engineering. Antony George Francis Thottian, A. Anuj and Harikeethan Raghuram came second, third and fourth in medicine.

T.A. Saneesh Raj won the first rank in engineering in the Scheduled Caste category and Ansal Issac bagged the first rank in the Scheduled Tribe category. Swathy Haridas is the topper in medicine in Scheduled Caste and Steffi Anna George in the Scheduled Tribe category.

As many as 98,141 candidates appeared for the engineering examination and 70,863 for the medical examination.

Mr. Baby said 66,208 candidates had been included in the engineering rank-list and 31,933 have been disqualified.

As many as 55,656 candidates figure in the medical rank-list and 15,207 have been disqualified.

There are 2,000 MBBS and 24,822 engineering seats in the State.
