Man held on cheating charge

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: K. Manoj Reddy, who allegedly duped nearly 1,500 persons of Rs. 30 crore by selling lands of others by claiming as his own, was arrested by Hayathnagar police of Cyberabad on Wednesday.

Hailing from Venkatapuram of Warangal district, the 50-year-old man set up Surya real estate office at Dilsukhnagar in mid-90s. He got printed colourful brochures of a venture claiming that it was located at Hayathnagar. Through marketing agents, he would attract gullible middle-class people and offer them open plots at cheap rates. He would also give the option of making payments on instalment basis. His agents would drive the prospective buyers to the lands of others in the village in cars and show the land from a distance claiming that it belonged to Reddy. Most of the buyers didn’t inquire with the locals and bought the plots.
