‘Missing’ fishermen return

Staff Reporter

Back home safe after an hour’s struggle in deep sea

ONGOLE: About 35 fishermen, who were caught in a whirlwind, returned home safe after struggling for an hour in the sea.

Fishermen of Kothapatnam Pallepalem near here ventured into sea in 10 boats on Wednesday afternoon to lay their nets.

A strong wind caught them unawares and their boats capsized. They clung to the boats to keep themselves afloat.

When the wind subsided, they turned back their boats and reached ashore.

Strong winds

The strong winds however drifted them northwards.

Those belonging to Pallepalem reached Chinnaganjam while fishermen of Eethamukkala reached Pallepalem.

Meanwhile, the television channels beamed news that nearly 36 fishermen were missing due to boat capsize.

Fisheries department officials went into a tizzy and took time to ascertain the safety of the missing fishermen.
