Undo the injustice, says KCR

Staff Reporter

NARNOOR (ADILABAD DT.): Wednesday’s election campaign of Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) president K. Chandrashekhar Rao in the agency areas of Adilabad district was marked by the absence of the usual rancour. His speeches at all the three election meetings at Narnoor, Jainoor and Indervelli mandal headquarter villages were plain sober even when he broached the topic of the murder of one his partymen at Warangal recently.

Speaking in a mix of Hindi and Urdu Mr. Chandrashekhar Rao was his usual self using witticisms to explain the regions’ history and the injustices done to Telangana region by Andhra rulers. The oratory went well with the tribals attending the meeting.

Plea to tribals

The TRS president wanted the tribals and others in the area to think before taking the decision on casting their vote.

As tribals attached great value to flags he hinged his speeches on party flags. He wanted them to recognise which of the flags they should associate with in order to undo the injustices.

On the issue of injustice done to tribals of the region, Mr. Chandrashekhara Rao said though five Assembly and two Parliament seats were reserved for tribals in view of their majority representation in population, the reservations in education and employment was grossly disproportionate. He said while tribals constituted 12 per cent of the population only 6 per cent of jobs and seats in colleges were reserved for the STs. He promised to set the anomaly right once Telangana was formed.

The other example Mr. Rao quoted was that of the funds under tribal sub plan (TSP) meant for development of agency areas and tribals. “In the 13 years of rule of TDP and the Congress about Rs. 13,800 crore of funds from the TSP have been diverted,” he charged. “This demonstrates the amount of seriousness the rulers had for tribal development,” he observed.
