Paes-Bhupathi will play together: AITA

Special Correspondent

New Delhi: The All India Tennis Association (AITA) reiterated its stand that Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi would represent the country in the Olympics.

Responding to the communication received from Bhupathi, that he was tired of endlessly waiting for a plan to prepare for the Beijing Olympic Games and that he would prefer playing with Rohan Bopanna in the Beijing Games, the AITA Secretary General, Anil Khanna, categorically stated that the whole country knew that the former World No. 1 doubles pair was the best bet for a medal in Beijing.

Mr. Khanna said that he would convince Bhupathi to relent from his stand.

‘Best team’

“Leander and Mahesh are the best team and they are capable of beating anybody in the world on their day. "

“We have planned a two-week camp in Mumbai after the Wimbledon to prepare the two players.

“Leander has already accepted the idea,” said Mr. Khanna.

Easier option

The AITA secretary general said that it was easier for Paes and Bhupathi to sit and plan the tournaments that they would like to play before the Olympics.
