SUSPENSE IN NOIDA: Curious onlookers waiting outside Aarushi Talwar’s residence on Wednesday while senior police officers interrogated her parents inside.

NOIDA/LUCKNOW: Police on Wednesday said the brutal murder of Noida teenager Aarushi Talwar and the family’s domestic help Hemraj a week ago appeared to be the work of a doctor or a butcher and a breakthrough in cracking the case was expected soon.

The police in Noida questioned four-five suspects besides the dentist parents of the girl even as a team of Delhi Police officers visited the scene of the crime during the day to try and help unravel the double murder mystery.

“The way Aarushi’s throat was cut points out that it is the work of some professional who can be a doctor or a butcher,” said Additional Director-General of Uttar Pradesh Police (Law and Order) Brijlal in Lucknow.

“Professional hand”

A five-cm-deep wound on Aarushi’s vocal cord was found and the way the throat was slit pointed to a professional hand, he added.

In Kanpur, Director-General of Police Vikram Singh said the investigations were in the final stage and the case would be cracked soon.

Asked whether any member of Aarushi’s family was involved in the gory killings, the police officer told reporters that everything related to the murders would come out soon.

“The police have obtained vital leads and the prime culprit will be caught soon,” the DGP said. – PTI

Staff Reporter adds:

With the investigations failing to make much headway despite repeated claims by senior police officers over the week, a team of officers of the Delhi Police Crime Branch visited the crime scene in the afternoon to assist their Noida counterpart.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (Anti-Homicide) Joy N. Tirkey and Inspector Jitender Kundu visited the residence of the Talwars in Jalvayu Vihar and inspected the scene of crime.

The two officers also had an interaction with the Noida Police officers investigating the case.

“Although there was no formal request from the Uttar Pradesh police for any assistance, the two officers visited the spot to help them in the investigations. It is a common practice for the police in the National Capital Region to mutually help each other in cracking important criminal cases,” said Delhi Police spokesman Rajan Bhagat.

However, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) Anil Shukla said the officers had gone to discuss a carjacking case with the Senior Superintendent of Police (Noida), Satish Ganesh.

Interrogated

Meanwhile, the Noida police interrogated Aarushi’s parents – Dr. Rajesh Talwar and Dr. Nupur Talwar -- for the sixth day in a row. The interrogation team arrived at the Noida Sector 25 residence in the afternoon and their questioning spanned over two hours.

“We have recorded their statements and investigations are in progress. It is a blind murder case and cannot be worked out overnight,” said a Noida Police officer.
