This Day That Age
The Government of India has lodged a protest with the Pakistan Government on the East Pakistan-Assam border firing, Foreign Office sources in Karachi said. It is understood that India’s strongly-worded protest note is in connection with the “unprovoked aggression” in the Surma river area by the Pakistan forces. The note is understood to have referred in particular to uninterrupted firing in the Dawki area which is well within the Indian Territory. The sources said the whole matter was under consideration of the Pakistan Government and the possibility of calling a high level conference of the chief Secretaries of Assam and East Pakistan Governments to bring about a cease-fire is likely.
