The new electorate: Tribal youngsters from Jamgaon in Jainoor mandal display their preference of the TRS in consonance with the trend. ADILABAD: The age group of persons comprising the support base respectively of the three major parties fighting it out in the byelections here seems to correspond with the party’s standing in terms of age. While the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is a relatively new party is supported mainly by the youth, the Telugu Desam Party (TDP) has supporters mostly from middle age groups and the Congress being the oldest party draws its support chiefly from the older persons. “The TRS represents a new wave in politics. The revolutionary tinge identified with that party easily attracts the youth,” theorised Laxmi Narayana Raju, a retired lecturer. “Its appeal is like that of a new filmi song,” he added. “TDP is 26 years old now. Many of its activists were quite young when they had joined that party. Those of the workers who have stayed back in the party must have grown into middle aged,” Mr. Laxmi Narayan Raju continued. Accordingly, the Congress is by and large supported by the older generation. The youth, especially the unemployed among them talk about the dismal job prospects in a united Andhra and G.O. 610 on repatriation of employees from other regions in the State. “Our jobs are being cornered by people from other States making it difficult for us educated. That is why we want Telangana to be run by our people,” said Raghuram, a young TRS supporter from Mavala.
