Probe into use of Class IV staff for unofficial work

Staff Reporter

Sequel to attack on an employee of Health Department

Chief Secretary to look into the issue

Accused person traced, say police

BHUBANESWAR: The State government on Thursday ordered a probe into the engagement of Class IV employees in official quarters of senior bureaucrats.

The probe order came in the wake of an attack on a class IV employee who was engaged at the residence of an IAS officer.

Chief Secretary Ajit Kumar Tripathy would look into the matter of engaging government class IV employees for the unofficial purpose, Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik told reporters here. State government had earlier issued a circular prohibiting deployment of government employees by senior bureaucrats at their residence.

Complaint lodged

The IAS officers in question were Ardhendu Sekhar Sarangi, Director General of Gopabandhu Academy of Administration and his wife Cooperation Secretary Madhur Sarangi.

A complaint was lodged with the Capital Police Station here accusing that a gardener had attacked the government employee of the Health Department.

But, according to reports, mystery still shrouded the identification of assailant. Earlier in a similar incidence, son of this IAS couple had attacked a class IV employee.

Rabi Satpathy, Inspector-in-charge of Capital Police Station, however, said the suspected gardener was traced and a team of police would soon go to Binjharpur in Jajpur district to nab him.

Meanwhile, the victim Ramesh Sethi was admitted to ICU at SCB Medical College and Hospital, Cuttack, after a surgical operation was conducted on his skull. Condition of Mr. Sethi, who had received a 7 cm-deep injury on his skull, was still critical. He regained sense for a while in the morning. His statement was significant in identifying the real culprit.
