First woman jailor in State

Berhampur: Orissa is all set to get its first woman jailor when Laxmi Mukhi joins the Dasapalla sub-jail in Nayagarh district.

Laxmi (30) was promoted to the post of jailor and transferred to Dasapalla from circle jail, Berhampur, official sources said on Thursday.

Mukhi, daughter of S Mukhi, a retired government employee at Baripada had joined in the Jail department in 2000 and was posted at circle jail at Choudwar in 2001 after six months training at the jail training college here.

She had served as the assistant jailor at Choudwar for about six years. Dasapalla is her third posting in the prison service with a new record in the state, sources said.

“I am very happy as I am the first woman jailor in the State,” Mukhi said. The woman officer said she would carry out the government’s programme for prison reform in her new posting. -PTI
