Competitive campaign

With byelections just a week away, it is the campaigning styles of contestants of different political parties that have been really engaging the attention of citizens.

With all the major parties looking at the bypolls to make a point, campaigning is turning competitive.

If a candidate stopped by a person eking a living by ironing clothes to lend a hand, another gave a bath to a child in a slum.

Almost all party candidates barring Musheerabad BJP candidate K. Laxman and Lok Satta candidates indulged in such gestures to win over the electorate and there by their votes.

But BJP MLA G. Kishan Reddy says gone are the days when voters would be fooled by such tactics. It is the reputation and credibility of the contestants that would finally matter, he avers.
