Campus recruitment inaugurated at varsity

PUDUCHERRY: Principal Consultant of Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) Christopher Hudson said on Friday the value additions and strengths a person brought to the company was important in the recruitment process and education alone was not sufficient.

Inaugurating the Group Campus Recruitments for the 2009 batch of students at Pondicherry University, he said, “What value and strengths do you bring to the company is important. That is what we are looking for in the recruitment process. We build the skills in you through training programmes. Every individual has to go through a training programme every year.” Mr. Hudson said. TCS had recruited 219 students from Pondicherry University in 2007-2008.

Vice Chancellor In-charge and Director of Studies, Educational Innovations and Rural Reconstruction of Pondicherry University S. Kuppuswami said beyond academics, students required the basic intelligent quotient, adaptability to change according to the requirements and deliver to the expectations.

In 2007-2008, a total of 1,700 students were registered at the placement cell. Of this, 1,059 students were placed in 63 companies. The companies who visited the University included TCS, Cognizant Technology Solutions, Infosys, Wipro, Satyam, HCL and IDBI, Placement Co-ordinator of the University S.K.V. Jayakumar said. Head of Accreditation Process of TCS A.K. Pattabiraman and Chairman of Placement Committee S. Balakrishnan spoke.
