71.23 per cent polling in Belgaum

Belgaum: The polling percentage recorded in the third phase of election in 18 constituencies of Belgaum district on Thursday was 71.23. The district has 28,98,662 voters.

Of the 20,64,597 voters who had exercised their franchise, 9,79,225 are women. This is about 10 per cent more than what was expected by the election authorities. The district election officer and Deputy Commissioner, M.E. Shivalingmurthy, attributed the “good voter response” to the efforts of the election staff, police and the media.

The highest polling of 80.71 per cent was recorded in Hukkeri, while the lowest of 60.91 per cent was in Belgaum North.

The polling percentage recorded in Nippani was 74.07, Chikkodi-Sadalga 74.37, Athani 73.29, Kagwad 70.60, Kudachi (SC) 68.25, Raibag (SC) 66.13, Arabhavi 74.14, Gokak 69.54, Yamkanmardi (ST) 73.59, Belgaum North 60.91, Belgaum South 63.73, Belgaum Rural 71.07, Khanapur 70.50, Kittur 74.87, Bailhongal 71.45, Soundatti Yallamma 74.4 and Ramdurg 72.24.
