Candidates, supporters waiting with fingers crossed

KOLAR: It has been a long wait for about a fortnight. The candidates of various political parties, independents and their supporters are waiting with their fingers crossed to know the results of the elections for which polling was held in the first phase on May 10.

With barely a day to go for the counting of the votes, anxiety among all concerned and the people is mounting in Kolar and Chickballapur districts as elsewhere in the State.

About 73.11 per cent of voters in Kolar and 77.72 per cent voters in Chickballapur district exercised their franchise on May 10 to elect six and five people’s representatives from these districts respectively. The fate of the candidates has been safely secured in the Electronic Voting Machines, which are kept under tight security.

Elaborate arrangements have been made for counting of votes at the Government College for Boys here. Counting of votes of all the six Assembly constituencies in Kolar district will be taken up here and the results are expected to out by afternoon, Deputy Commissioner J. Ravishankar said.

According to Chickballapur Deputy Commissioner K. Subodh Yadav, the counting process for all the five segments in the district will be held at SJC College of Engineering at district headquarters, where the EVMs have been kept.

The fate of 143 candidates in the two districts will be known on Sunday.Rampant betting has also marked the post-poll scenario. It is estimated that crores of rupees are involved in betting by supporters of various parties in different parts of the region. Besides cash, some even put their cars, tractors, two wheelers and such other valuables as stake.
