One of the closely contested polls in the district has been in Hulsoor Assembly segment in 1962. In that election, it was a fight between independent candidate Bapurao and Subhadrabai of Congress. Bapurao won the election by 38 votes. Hulsoor Assembly seat was made a reserved segment in 1967 election and after the recent delimitation exercise, the constituency was scrapped. Another close contest was witnessed in Hulsoor in the 1989 election. Mahendrakumar Kallappa of the Congress won by 867 votes against Janata Dal nominee Manikrao Sambaji Paranjape. Close contests were also witnessed in Humnabad segment in 1962 and 1972 elections.
