STILL IN CUSTODY: The Malmaruti Police escorting Liyaquat Ali, a terror suspect, after he was produced before the JMFC-IV Court in Belgaum on Friday. Belgaum: The JMFC-IV Court in Belgaum city extended the police custody of terror suspect Liyaquat Ali, son of Syed Abdul Gani of Belgaum for three more days. The Malmaruti police had produced him before the court on Friday and had requested to extend his custody for five days to carry out investigations. However, the court granted only three days to the police. Liyaquat was arrested by the police on June 15. The police were tight-lipped on his links (if any) with the terrorist organisations or involvement in any terror attacks in the country. Director-General of Police R. Srikumar, who was in the city recently, had maintained that the investigations were on and the police were maintaining secrecy so that the investigations into the case was not affected. Liyaquat Ali was stated to be serving in a London-based security agency and was picked up from his house in Khusro Colony under Malmaruti Police Station limits in Belgaum city. The police had seized “objectionable” documents carrying messages of Osama Bin Laden and Saddam Hussein, about 23 video CDs on Gujrat riots of 2002.
