H.E. Dr. Nasu, Japanese Ambassador in India, writes on the special issue on the III Asian games :

We know the reputation of The Hindu and we appreciate very much the work of your paper in contributing to the promotion of sport in your own country and abroad. It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest greetings to our friends in India, specially those who are interested in developing understanding and co-operation among nations through sport.

The Third Asian Games in Tokyo will be a great occasion in the East and it would give us very great joy to have a strong representation of our Indian friends in the many events to be held there.

Since the visit of your Prime Minister Nehru to Japan, co-operation between Indian and Japan has been fast developing. We have seen many instances quite recently in the sphere of Indo-Japanese co-operation in the economic field and quite a few in the cultural field and this occasion will be a big addition to this happy friendship between the two Asiatic nations. We extend our warmest welcome to all visiting friends and we do most sincerely hope they will enjoy their stay in Japan.
