KRISHNARAYAPURAM: Farmers should come forward to recharge their dug wells and open wells whereby they will also conserve precious water for irrigation purposes, Collector T.N. Venkatesh has said. Participating in the Kudigal Maanadu to mark the culmination of the jamabandhi for the Fazli 1417 here on Wednesday, Mr. Venkatesh said that usually only big farmers used to submit petitions for pattas in the jamabandhis and here a lot of small and even marginal farmers, aware of the need for patta and proper land records, have submitted petitions. Responding to the people’s demand that buses halt near the Krishnarayapuram Panchayat Union office, the Collector said that he would discuss the issue with the TNSTC and Department of Transport officials to find a solution. While a total of 1,274 petitions were received during the four days of the jamabandhi in the Krishnarayapuram taluk, 312 have been disposed off while solution would also be found to the rest of the petitions very soon, Mr. Venkatesh added. PudukottaiAt the valediction of ‘jamabandhi’ at the taluk office in Tirumayam on Thursday, the Collector D. Uthirakkumaran distributed assistance to the tune of Rs.1.83 lakhs to 132 beneficiaries. He said the annual ‘jamabandhi’ provided an opportunity to the villagers to get their grievances redressed. Action was being taken on 283 petitions with genuine grievances.
