CHENNAI: A 10-member Russian delegation called on the Governor S. S. Barnala on Friday.
The team, led by Dimitri V. Bojenov, Vice-Chancellor, Tver State Medical Academy, Russia, is on a visit to India (May 19-29). It will be in Tamil Nadu till Sunday.
Welcoming the delegates at the Raj Bhavan, Mr. Barnala said 2008 was being celebrated as the “Year of Russia in India.” Tamil Nadu, he said, was doing fairly well in higher education. The State’s 250 engineering colleges produced 75,000 graduates every year.
Tamil Nadu was also a frontrunner in engineering, science and technology, with many universities taking up collaborative work with reputed institutions across the world. The State, the Governor said, was keen on having closer collaboration with Russia, specifically in technology, biotechnology and industrial entrepreneurship.
Mr. Bojenov said the delegation comprised representatives from across Russia, and some of them were visiting India for the first time.
Stanislav Simakov, director, cultural department, Russian Consulate in Chennai, and Ravichandran, coordinator, Education study (Abroad), Russian Cultural Centre, were also present.
