Manju Bala sets National record

Pune: Manju Bala of Gujarat set a National record of 52.26 metres in the junior women’s hammer throw event of the eighth Federation Cup athletics and National youth championships here on Friday.

Manju’s mark bettered the 2001 record of 49.55m held by Archana Bara of Jharkhand.

The results: Junior men (U-20): 3000m: 1. Mohammad Athar Imam (U.P.) 9:48.20, 2. Jai Prakash (Jkd) 9:51.10, 3. Mahendra Kumar (U.P.) 10:13.40; Hammer: 1. Lokesh Yadav (Del) 66.85, 2. Chandrodaya Narayan Singh (U.P.) 64.39, 3. Poonia Shankar (Guj) 61.23; 10,000m walk: 1. Pradeep (Har) 47:47.91, 2. S. Damen Singh (Man) 48:43.73, 3. Ajay Kumar (Del) 49:07.45.

Junior women (U-20): Hammer: 1. Manju Bala (Guj) 52.26 (National record, previous 49.55), 2. Gunjan Singh (U.P.) 43.85, 3. Poornima Nivangune (Mah) 33.30; 10,000m walk: 1. Rani Yadav (U.P.) 56:03.56, 2. Mamta (Har) 57:23.51, 3. Asha B. (Ker) 1:00:49.72.
