BANGALORE: It is now official that the hooch produced in Bangalore and Kolar districts contained methanol in high degree. The samples of the deadly brew which was referred to the State Directorate of Forensic Sciences has shown presence of methanol. The report was made available to the Excise Department on Friday. The report matched with the one which was produced by the Chief Chemist of the Excise Department. The Excise Department has shifted its focus to Hassan and Sakleshpur after the hooch related deaths there. The department’s raiding and combing machinery while still continuing its task of controlling the hooch menace in Bangalore and Kolar has taken up deployment of top sleuths of excise at Sakleshpur and Hassan. Stating that the hooch production in Hassan district was highly concentrated in and around Hettur in Sakleshpur taluk, Additional Commissioner of Excise (intelligence) H.P. Erappa told The Hindu from his Sakleshpur camp that combing had begun in Sakleshpur and Hassan.
