State students shine in CBSE exam

BHUBANESWAR: Orissa students came out with flying colours with an impressive pass percentage of 97.29 per cent in the Class XII examination conducted by the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) this year.

Out of 4,391 students, who appeared from the State, 4,272 students successfully passed the examination this year.

Similarly, 368 out of 446 students who sat in commerce steam of Class XII examination, succeeded with the pass percentage estimated to be 82.51 per cent.

Soumyashant Nayak of city-based DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur and Satyajit Rout of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Sundargarh topped in the science stream of this year’s Class XII examination. They secured 477 marks with a percentage of whopping 95.4 per cent.

While Soumyashant, who was in Mumbai, said he wanted to do research in a basic science subject rather than diverting to other professional careers, Satyajit said he would try to get into any prestigious IIT. They were closely followed by Shubhankar Mohapatra of DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur who earned 476 marks with percentage of 95.2. Vipul Bhartia from Dalmia Vidyamandir, Rajgangpur, topped in commerce stream with 470 marks and he secured 94 per cent. Vipul said he would pursue chartered accountancy profession. The first 10 positions were heavily populated by DAV Public School, Chandrasekharpur, with as many as six students making their way into the illustrious list. This year, 20 students were in the first 10 positions.

School’s distinction

Students from 65 schools across the State take the examination conducted by CBSE. As many as 18 schools in the capital city are affiliated to CBSE. If overall performance is taken into consideration, students from DAV Public School, Unit III secured average 82.1 per cent, which was the highest compared to average pass percentage of other schools. As the results were out during the day students thronged their respective schools.
