Section 144 to be clamped

Section 144 not applicable in the 500-metre radius around the counting centres

Liquor shops to remain closed from 6 a.m. of May 24 to 6 a.m. on May 26.


HASSAN: Deputy Commissioner Anjum Parvez has ordered the imposition of Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code throughout Hassan district from 6 p.m. on Saturday to 6 p.m. on Monday in view of the counting of votes on Sunday.

Except in a 500-metre radius around the Malnad College of Engineering and Government Arts College, where counting will take place, the assembly of more than five people has been banned in all other areas. Raising slogans and taking out processions has also been banned. The Deputy Commissioner has also directed the closure of all liquor shops in the district from 6 a.m. on Saturday to 6 a.m. on Monday. In a direction to the counting agents, Mr. Anjum Parvez has directed all the agents to remain present at their respective counting halls half an hour before the scheduled start of counting. Counting will start from 8 a.m., he added.
