Clarification

CHENNAI: All those who apply for elevator licence to the Electrical Inspectorate department are issued licences.

With reference to a news item that appeared in these columns on May 21, Chief Electrical Inspector said in a release that most of the lifts are licensed except the lifts for which owners do not apply. However, they are advised to obtain licence.

In respect of applications for lift licence, action is taken promptly and licences are issued whenever such applications are received by the department after scrutiny of the application and site inspection except the cases which do not meet the safety or statutory provisions.
