Fixed rate for metered water connections goes

Staff Reporter

CHENNAI: Chennai Metrowater has withdrawn the fixed rate for water charges levied on metered connections at multi-storeyed buildings.

The decision to withdraw the uniform water charges for metered connections was taken during a departmental review meeting conducted on Friday, following public demand.

The water agency had adopted the fixed rate system of Rs. 15 per kilo litre (kl) two months ago.

Residents had then complained that those who consumed less than 10 kl were affected due to the fixed rate system.

The slab rate starts from Rs.2.50 per kl for water consumption till 10 kl. The charges ranged up to Rs.25 per kl based on the amount of water consumption.

A Metrowater official said about 12,000 multi-storeyed buildings have been identified in the city for metered connections.

The slab rate would be reverted with immediate effect.
