Suspend senior Excise officials: Deve Gowda

Staff Reporter

KANCHEEPURAM: The former Prime Minister, H.D. Deve Gowda, on Friday blamed the Karnataka State administration for the recent hooch tragedy, and urged Governor Rameshwar Thakur to immediately suspend senior officials of the Excise Department.

Mr. Gowda told reporters that it was his son, H.D. Kumaraswamy, as Chief Minister, who imposed a ban on arrack sale. The postings of senior officials in the Excise Department were made during the period the then Deputy Chief Minister (B.S. Yeddyurappa of the BJP) held this portfolio, Mr. Gowda said, adding the people of Karnataka knew about their credibility.

Ironically, the Governor, who effected the transfer of more than 3800 officials and staff members, including the Chief Secretary and the Revenue Secretary, did not touch the Excise Department, Mr. Gowda said.

He was here to offer prayers at the Devarajaswamy and Kamakshi temples.
