CHENNAI: The Food Corporation of India (FCI) will award 22 stipends to student sportspersons who have performed well in National School Games, National junior / senior championships, and all-India inter-University tournaments. Talented athletes (who aren’t students) from rural areas may also apply. Individual sportspersons — who have participated in table tennis (men only), badminton and weightlifting — must have finished among the top three in the above-mentioned tournaments. Male athletes in team sports — hockey, cricket, and football — must have turned in exemplary individual performances even if their team hasn’t secured a top-three place. The stipend (Rs. 3000 per month for those between 15 and 21 years; Rs. 5000 per month for those between 21 and 24) will be paid for one year with the provision of renewal every year for a period of up to five years. Those wishing to apply must submit copies of sports certificates, age proof and student identity cards to the Secretary, Zonal Sports Promotion Committee, FCI, No. 3, Haddows Road, Chennai-6 on or before June 10. Visit www.fcisz.tn.nic.in or call 28233216 for details. — Special Correspondent
