Staff Reporter

Seven stolen motorbikes recovered

Suspects used duplicate keys

Thiruvananthapuram: The rural police have arrested two persons in connection with a series of two-wheeler thefts in the Neyyatinkara municipality area. Law enforcers recovered seven recently stolen motorbikes on the basis of the confessions of the suspects.

The accused are Sunil Kumar, 31, and Reji, 28, both residents of Kavuvila. Sub-Inspector, Neyyatinkara, R. Vinod Kumar said the recovered motorbikes had been reported stolen from Neyyatinkara Court, Akshaya Shopping Mall and Sree Krishnaswamy Temple precincts. He said the suspects lifted the two-wheelers using a set of duplicate keys.

The police got suspicious when they learned that the accused had been purchasing several sets of motorbike registration plates. They sold the motorbikes to unsuspecting buyers for an initial payment of Rs.10,000. The suspects convinced buyers that the motorbikes were confiscated by banks from vehicle loan defaulters. They promised the buyers that they would give them the original keys and registration certificate books of the vehicles after bank formalities were over.

The suspects were produced before the court and remanded in judicial custody for 14 days.
