Fun Science Gallery at VITM

Staff Reporter

BANGALORE: Principles of aerodynamics, optical illusion, electromagnetic induction and such other scientific theories will no more be boring and dry.

A Fun Science Gallery featuring activities based on such scientific theories was inaugurated at the Visvesvaraya Industrial and Technological Museum (VITM) here on Friday. The gallery has been developed by the museum for learning science through fun.

50 exhibits

The gallery consists of 50 interactive exhibits and a 3-D theatre that stimulates the minds of the people and encourage them to explore for themselves. The exhibits in the gallery have been conceptualised to provide maximum fun and excitement in learning science.

“We renovated the gallery with a new set of exhibits with no particular theme so that people from all walks of life can enjoy their time here,” said K. Vasudeva Bhatta, Director, VITM. “People of all ages try out these exhibits themselves, enjoy, play and also learn things. Only when one is curious to learn will he enjoy what he is learning,” added Mr. Bhatta.

Principles

“The exhibits explain principles of physics and aspects of electronics in a simple way that is easily understood by even people who do not have much scientific knowledge. They are practical oriented and need the person to be involved in them making them interactive. I believe this is the only way to learn and enjoy science,” said G. Padmanaban of the Department of Biochemistry, IISc., and chairman, governing body of the National Council of Science Museums (NCSM), who inaugurated the gallery.

“This is so exciting. I had only seen still pictures of these things in my textbooks. I wish I could learn everything in my textbooks this way,” said Sumanth, after watching the formation of tornado.
