Bangalore: The much-awaited Common Entrance Test (CET) results are out and the toppers are on cloud nine. For these students, years of toiling and dedication have yielded good results. Sunil Badami, a student of PDJ Junior College, Bijapur, secured the first rank in medicine. A very excited Sunil told The Hindu, “Confidence is the key to success. Though I used to study for six to eight hours a day, a little self confidence gave me the edge. After the results were announced, I was extremely happy and relaxed. I did not opt for coaching classes for CET and managed with self study. I want to become a cardiologist and hope to get a seat in Bangalore Medical College.” Sachin. N. Dhareshwar of St. Joseph’s College scored the second highest marks in CET in medicine/dental, third rank in Indian System of Medicine and Homoeopathy, and fifth rank in engineering. Sachin said he was speechless and very happy with his results. “I did not expect to get second rank in medicine but by the grace of God and the blessings of my parents I have reached this stage,” he said. Sachin believes that the two years of Pre-University Course decide the rest of one’s career. He said he wanted to pursue engineering with specialisations in electronics and tele-communications. Shilpa G. Kamath of Canara PU College, Mangalore, bagged the third rank in medical/dental. Rachana of Mahatma Gandhi Memorial PU College, Udupi, secured the first rank in the ISM and Homoeopathy. Proud of her achievement, she said, “I worked hard and I owe my success to my tuition teachers and my college lecturers. I have not yet decided which college to join and am looking forward to a bright future.” Shailesh Patil, a student of Shree Guru Independent College, Gulbarga, secured the sixth rank in ISM and Homoeopathy. Shailesh had studied in a Kannada medium school and claimed that it is the confidence he placed in himself that led to his success. “I did not take up any tutoring classes,” he said. “I had full faith in my college coaching and spent time every day to study.” Sharat Shivalingappa Ibrahimpur, who secured the third rank in engineering from Sharanabasaveshwar Residential PU College, Gulbarga, felt that he owed his achievements to simple planning and attentiveness. “I listened carefully in class and prepared at home. I knew that I would get a single digit rank after I calculated my marks. I am an electronics student and will go ahead with this subject. My parents, teachers and friends have been my support,” said an ecstatic Sharath. First and second ranks in engineering have been secured by N. Vasuki and Shailesh K.S., respectively. “I had taken correspondence courses after class 10 because I am very interested in architecture,” said Ramya R., who secured first rank in architecture. A student of National Public School, Rajajinagar, she said she prepared by answering as many mock papers and tests of the National Aptitude Test in Architecture (NATA). “I plan to apply to colleges in Hyderabad. If that does not work out, I will take a seat in R.V. College of Engineering.” Nishmita R., second rank holder and a student of Banashankari Arts, Commerce and S.K. Gubii Science College, Dharwad, said, “I put in a lot of hard work to get to this stage. I am happy that my efforts have paid off.” Ekta H. Vardhar, a third rank holder and student of Mount Carmel College, said, “I worked hard. I am happy with the result.”
