HYDERABAD: It was the lure of a flat that prompted one of the four hired killers suffering from AIDS to take part in the killing of Nizampet village ward member K. Kantha Reddy. The prime accused (name withheld) had confessed to police that he wanted to leave behind the flat for his children as he was sure to die in two or three years. He was contacted by K. Srinivas Reddy, husband of Nizampet village ‘sarpanch’ K. Tejashri, to eliminate Kantha Reddy, ward member of the same village, police said quoting his confession. Hailing from Nizamabad district, Kantha Reddy settled as real estate businessman in Nizampet few years ago. Accusing Srinivas Reddy of illegally collecting money for every permission given by village panachayat, he started demanding share from the former. As the demands continued, the sarpanch’s husband approached the prime accused offering Rs. 5 lakh and flat to eliminate the ward member. The prime accused contacted three others — M. Anjaiah, N. Mohan and M. Vamshi. They lured Kantha Reddy to Narmetta on the pretext of showing a grape garden that was for sale. On reaching a secluded place, they murdered him by smashing his head with a boulder. The Special Operations Team of Cyberabad police led by P. Radhakishan Rao arrested all the four accused on Saturday.
