This Day That Age
Japanese Premier, Nobusuke Kishi said in Tokyo on May 24 that Japan would not change its policy towards the Chinese People’s Republic and that it was for Peking to reconsider its attitude towards Japan. At his first news conference since his victory in the general elections, Mr. Kishi said that Japan’s policy towards China was not wrong, but that it was China which was misunderstanding Japan. The Premier also rejected a Socialist proposal that Japan should solemnly pledge non-nuclearisation. He said he thought it would be more practical to appeal to the world and to work at the United Nations for a ban on tests, manufacture and stoppage of nuclear weapons.
