Guwahati: The Northeast Frontier Railway has decided to resume train services between Lumding and Badarpur following an assurance by the Assam government that adequate security will be provided. The services in this meter gauge section in North Cachar hill district were suspended on May 15 in the wake of the killing of 11 persons, including a train driver, by militants of Dima Halam Daogah (Jewel faction) in the district. The decision to restore the services was taken after a thorough review of the security measures at a closed-door meeting held at the N.F. Railway headquarters at Maligaon. It was attended, among others, by Inspector-General of Police (Law and Order), Inspector-General, Railway Protection Special Force and senior officials of the Railway Board and N.F. Railways. Chief Public Relations Officer Samir Goswami said in a press release that a consensus decision was taken at another meeting held on Saturday morning at which all union representatives and senior officials of the N.F. Railway were present.
