HYDERABAD: Chetan Anand of India won the Spanish Open badminton championship in Madrid defeating Henri Hurskainen of Sweden 21-17, 19-21, 21-14 in the men’s singles final on Sunday. Chetan, who was the finalist in the India Open Grand Prix championship held here recently, earlier shocked top-seeded Andre Kurniawan of Indonesia 21-17, 9-21, 22-20 in the semifinals. The results (involving Indians): Men’s singles: Final: Chetan Anand bt Henri Hurskainian (Swe) 21-17, 19-21, 21-14. Semifinal: Chetan Anand bt Andre Kurniawan (Ina) 21-17, 9-21, 22-10. Quarterfinal: Chetan Anand bt Stenny Kusuma (Ina) 21-7, 8-21, 21-10; Pre-quarterfinal: Chetan Anand bt Andi Hartono (Ina) 21-17, 21-15. Women’s singles: Final: Maria Elfira Christina (Ina) bt Neha Pandit 21-16, 21-4. Semifinal: Neha bt Karina Jorgensen (Den) 21-19, 15-21, 21-19. Quarterfinal: Neha bt Emelie Lennartsson (Swe) 21-9, 16-21, 21-14. Pre-quarterfinal: Neha bt Anu Nieminen (Fin) 21-18, 23-21, 21-16.
