Constantly refers to constraints imposed by the poll code on announcement of sops Warns against diversion of subsidised rice scheme in some areas ADILABAD: Chief Minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy was a picture of some discomfort on Sunday as he carefully worded his sentences at the election meeting at Asifabad. He constantly referred to the constraints imposed by the Model Code of Conduct on announcement of sops to farmers whose development was close to his heart. “Because of the Code I cannot use the word ‘sanction’. I will only say that I will do everything for the benefit of the farming community,” he observed. While appealing the gathering to vote for congress candidates Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy checked himself at junctures where a promise was needed. While referring to the demand of Mali community for inclusion in the list of Scheduled Tribes he almost made the promise before checking himself. He spoke at length to the impressive gathering about his government’s concern on issues related to the farming community. He spoke about how the Government caused the rate of interest on farming loans to decrease progressively until the pavala vaddi scheme was implemented. The Chief Minister talked of the various irrigation projects under way in the area under Asifabad Assembly segment. Mr. Rajasekhara Reddy accused some public representatives from Kerameri, Jainoor, Sirpur (U) and Narnoor tribal mandals of indulging in diversion of the subsidised rice and warned of stringent action. He earlier visited the Pranahita river from where water will be taken to Chevella. He also addressed meetings at Koutala and Kagaznagar mandal headquarters. He was accompanied by party candidates A. Indrakaran Reddy for Adilabad Lok Sabha and M. Nago Rao for Khanapur (ST) Assembly constituencies.
