A rare rendezvous

Staff Reporter

Kalam delivered

a lecture on nanotechnology

NEW DELHI: It was a rare and memorable rendezvous for 27 students of Sri Venkateswara College when they called on former President A.P.J. Abdul Kalam at his 10 Rajaji Marg residence in the Capital recently.

On May 17, Mr. Kalam delivered a lecture on nanotechnology – one of the add-on courses offered by the college to its undergraduate students. Students had an interactive session with Mr. Kalam in a very “informal” atmosphere.

“The students were impressed by his way of introducing nanotechnology to them. He discussed at length about nanorobots, solar cells and nuclear and biofuels. He answered students’ queries not only in the field of nanotechnology but also questions on global warming and energy scenario in general,” said Nutan Joshi, a faculty member at the Department of Electronics in the college who accompanied the youngsters. She is also the coordinator of the short-term course in nanotechnology. “He asked the students to write on a piece of paper what they should be remembered for and urged them to work hard to achieve their aim. According to him, aim, knowledge, sweat and perseverance were four important things in life,” she added. During his interaction with students, Mr. Kalam stressed on dream, thoughts and action.

“The former President had himself expressed his desire to meet the students of our college when our Principal A. Sankara Reddy met him on some other occasion. The students were most glad to meet him,” said Dr. Joshi.
