Sir, I find ‘one-way’ traffic movement restrictions in many routes in Chennai, Bangalore and Mumbai minimising traffic snarls. Cannot we emulate this on crowded stretches like Liberty-Himayathnagar? Despite road widening, this particular stretch always remains crowded as new shops, establishments, educational institutions and eateries come up here. A. J. Sai Pradeep, Himayatnagar Mr. Pradeep, We are looking at alternate routes for diverting part of the load currently on the arterial roads. One-ways are also being introduced gradually. Sir, Vehicle drivers coming in wrong directions are creating havoc at Begumpet airport-Prakashnagar Junction, particularly beneath the fly-over. Many vehicles try to reach Motilalnagar by crossing the median and taking the wrong route. Though traffic wardens are deployed during peak hours, they fail to check vehicles coming in wrong directions. Ananth Pattabi, Bhagvantapur Dear Mr. Ananth, I have marked your mail to the Assistant Commissioner of Police concerned to tighten up things at the Prakashnagar junction. If you are not happy by the end of the month, do ring me up. Sir, Please exhibit some indication at traffic signal points to stop vehicles on the lane, proceed straight, right etc. Attempts by vehicle drivers to turn right from left before the signal posts are creating traffic jams. B.Vasudev Reddy, D.D colony Dear Mr. Vasudev, Signal jumping is a menace in the city. We are noting down the vehicle numbers of the violators. Sometimes we intercept them at the next junction and send them to the court. We are also trying to instil lane discipline. To start with, we are asking the slow moving vehicles to move on the extreme left. They should shift to the right lane, if they need to take a right turn, about 100 feet before the intersection. Same applies to faster vehicles, if they need to turn left or right. Sir, These days, every vehicle is fitted with high beam lights. Because of high beam lights, the oncoming vehicles are not visible and this is resulting in accidents during the nights. K. Venkateswarlu, APGENCO Dear Mr. Venkateswarlu, There is provision for mandatory deflection / dipping of light by the driver. Those, who do not follow it, are liable. RTA is also putting out guidelines on this from time to time. Driving with dazzling light should come down gradually as stipulated in Rule 106 of the Central M. V. Rules, 1989. Sir, I feel only imposition of heavy fines on erring vehicle drivers would bring in traffic discipline on city roads. Why cannot a person driving his vehicle in wrong direction and thereby putting lives others in danger can be imposed such huge fines instead of the meagre Rs. 50 or Rs. 100? R. Srinivasan, Raj Bhavan Road Dear Mr. Srinivasan, Traffic Police has proposed hike in fines. There is no such power with any officer to cancel challans which have been issued correctly. All requests for review are taken in writing and thoroughly examined before a decision is taken. You have narrated an incident which typifies the tendency of our people to violate all rules and take a short cut to doom.
