Gogoi: we will provide one lakh government jobs

Announces schemes to be implemented in next three years

Guwahati: Assam Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi on Sunday announced a host of new schemes and programmes to be implemented by his government in the next three years.

Addressing a public meeting held here to mark completion of two years of the Congress-Bodo People’s Front (BPF) coalition government, Mr. Gogoi announced that his government would provide one lakh government jobs in the next three years.

Other new schemes and programmes to be implemented during the next three years that were announced by the Chief Minister included providing of Japis (traditional Assamese field hat) to 5 lakh women rice transplanters, subsidy to the tune of Rs. 3 lakh to 1,000 youth for self-employment in tourism sector, Rs. 5,000 as fixed deposit for every girl child born in a family living below the poverty line and cycle to every girl child of one lakh below the poverty line families.

He announced 10 per cent hike in basic salaries of State government employees as interim relief till a new pay commission to be constituted on June 1 makes its recommendation.

Mr. Gogoi said that the State government has decided to provide mobile handset to the Gaonburas (village headmen) to assist them function in a more efficient manner and for easy coordination with district officials.

In the coming three years 12 lakh weavers would be provided free yarn and six BPL families would be provided blankets, he added.

He said that during the last two years 3000 weavers in each Assembly constituency were distributed yarn and 3000 BPL families of each assembly constituency were provided blankets by the government.
