Residents petition Collector alleging fraud in land sale

ERODE: A group of 20 residents of Kamaraj Nagar in Ward 2 of Bhavani Municipality petitioned Collector Mahesan Kasirajan alleging fraud in the sale of land on which they had built houses.

The petitioners said the land they purchased and built houses was originally belonged to A. Sidhalingam, A. Kandasamy, A. Paramasivam and A. Mani all son of Arumugapandaram of Bhavani.

The brothers in 1992 granted power of attorney to sibling Selvam, who divided the 98-cent land in to housing plots and sold them.

The petitioners said that while some of them bought the land directly from Selvam, others purchased it from those to who Selvam had sold the land.

Consequent upon the purchase, the petitioners said they constructed houses and resided therein.

On May 15, the small industries service branch of State Bank of India, Bhavani, had advertised that it would soon take into possession the land, as a private company that had obtained loan by pledging the land, had not repaid.

It was only then that they came to know that Selvam and his brothers had duped them by using the same document to obtain loan from the bank.

The residents urged the Collector to look into the issue, arrest the culprits and restore the land to them.
