NALGONDA: Three youngsters died due to asphyxiation in an abandoned agricultural well at Chinna Sitaram thanda in Penpahad mandal on Monday. The three died one after another when they got into the 22-ft well to find out a suitable spot to sink a borewell, Suraypet Inspector M.Tirupathanna, who camped at the thanda, told The Hindu over phone. The deceased were identified as Banothu Saida (28), his brother Ravi (22) and their relative Kishan (20). “Ravi went into the well to save Saida and Kishan did the same mistake in an attempt to save the two. They reportedly died due to asphyxiation,” the police officer maintained. Poisonous gases?A rescue team consisting of revenue and police officials confirmed the deaths and arrangements were being made to remove the bodies. “We suspect that some poisonous gases were emanating from the bed of the well,” an official said. The team called for a poclain to make an outlet parallel to the well to reduce the impact of the gases. A pall of gloom descended on the village following the tragedy. Bhiksham, father of Saida and Ravi, told the officials that his sons were trying to sink a borewell in the old well for agricultural purpose.
