Registering protest: Journalists taking out a rally protesting against attack on Andhra Jyothi offices, in Kurnool on Tuesday.

KADAPA: Journalists took out a protest rally from Kadapa Press Club to the Collectorate and staged dharna on Tuesday condemning MRPS attack on Andhra Jyothi offices.

TDP Rajya Sabha member C. Ramachandraiah, former MLAs S.A. Khaleel Basha and R. Ramesh Kumar Reddy, party political coordinating secretary B. Hariprasad, CPI(M) State committee member N. Ravisankar Reddy, CPI town secretary G. Chandra, Janata Dal leader Y.M. Pratap Reddy and SFI district secretary Raju participated in the rally led by APUWJ district president P. Ramasubba Reddy.

The rallyists raised slogans decrying the attack and raised slogans demanding the arrest of MRPS State president Manda Krishna Madiga for instigating activists to ransack media offices. Demanding a public apology from Manda Krishna Madiga, Mr. Ramasubba Reddy said that he should change his anti-media attitude. Journalists also took out protest rallies in several mandal headquarters in the district.

TDP State secretary V.S. Ameer Babu, district vice-president S. Subhan Basha and Mr. Haripasad, CPI(M) leader N. Ravisankar Reddy, Subramanyam, member of APUWJ State Committee to deal with attacks on journalists, and others participated.

Tirupati special correspondent adds: Mediapersons took out a huge rally through the main thoroughfares of the city protesting against the attack.

The rally converged at the Ambedkar statue near the APSRTC junction where the leaders of the Chittoor district unit of the APUWJ and the Tirupati Press Club stashed a copy of the memorandum into the out-stretched hand of the Ambedkar’s statue as though to symbolically seek his intervention to rein in MRPS leaders and cadres.

Chittoor staff reporter adds: Journalists of the town, along with leaders of TDP, BJP and CPI, staged a dharna in front of the Collector’s office and held up traffic on Chittoor-Vellore Road.

Kurnool special correspondent adds: Journalists staged a demonstration here. Earlier, they took out a rally from Raj Vihar Centre to the Collectorate and held traffic for some time.

Anantapur staff reporter writes: Journalists took out a procession wearing black badges. Later, leaders of APUWJ led by district unit president M. Ramalinga Reddy presented a memorandum to M.K. Singh, SP.
