Shakespeare MA Malayalam ‘Shakespeare MA Malayalam,’ directed by Shyju and Shaji, starts off as a comedy but the humour fizzles out after the interval, leaving the audience yawning. The film is scripted by Jiju Asokan and Shyju-Shaji. Shakespeare Pavithran (Jayasurya) is an acclaimed playwright. He draws inspiration from real-life situations to write plays. Together with Kottayam Gopalan (Kalabhavan Mani), manager of Jayabharathi Theatres, he has several hits to his credit. But now, Gopalan is faced with a problem. In a week’s time he has to stage a play. Unfortunately, Shakespeare Pavithran is yet to give him a full script. He suffers from what is known as a writer’s block. In a bid to inspire Pavithran, Gopalan takes him to a remote countryside. There, Pavithran stays at Philomena Ettathi’s (Kolappulli Leela) cottage. One day, he happens to see a young milkmaid, Alli (Roma). Very soon, he builds a rapport with her. He gets to know more about her. This instils confidence in him and once again Shakespeare Pavithran begins writing. Pavithran is concerned about Alli. Her mother is bedridden and her father does not have any job. Alli does all jobs, including that of a maid at Dr. Viswanathan’s (Saikumar) house. But the family’s debts have piled up so much that bank officials come to attach their property. It is then that Dr. Viswanathan comes to her rescue. He offers her a job in Bangalore. But what is the job? Pavithran gets curious. He leaves for Bangalore. The truth comes as a rude shock to him. The rest of the film revolves around how Pavithran and Alli’s family react to her newfound job. The cast includes Jagathy Sreekumar, Rajan P. Dev, Suraj Venjaramood, Innocent, Anoop Chandran and Salim Kumar. The lyrics by Anil Panachooran and Egandiyoor Chandrasekharan are set to music by Mohan Sithara. Jebu Jacob cranks the camera. G. Jayakumar
