GUNTUR: Representatives of all political parties promised to extend their support to the proposed issue of voter ID cards in Guntur district from June 1 to July 14 by taking photographs booth-wise. At a meeting with Joint Collector Kanti Lal Dande here on Tuesday, Congress representatives Kuchipudi Sambasiva Rao and Md. Hidayat expressed happiness over the exercise being taken up and promised all help to the Revenue Department officials. They wanted the Joint Collector to instruct the RDOs and MROs to keep a watch on the progress of the programme as it was likely to be delayed in the rural areas. More than 20 lakh photo identity cards would be issued in Guntur district after a detailed procedure followed from June 1, as it was the responsibility of the government to provide voting right to every citizen of the country and booth-wise campaign would be taken up, said Mr. Dande. ReviewHe wanted the officials to work with dedication to identify the genuine voters during the door-to-door campaign and issue process taking cooperation from local level political leaders and citizens in spreading awareness till July 7. During this period the officials would go round the houses and ask voters to come to the nearest Photo ID issuing centre. From July 17 to 23 they would take up review of the voter lists prepared and if there were objections on the list prepared by the officials, people could represent to the authorities between July 24 and August 7. The draft publication of lists as per the new constituencies formed after delimitation would be published on August 31. BJP representative J. Shyam Kishore wanted RDOs and the Joint Collector to visit rural areas so that pace of work was maintained. TDP representatives M. Subba Rao and CPI(M) representative P. Rama Rao were also present.
