CPI (M) activists court arrest

‘M.P. Government apathetic to problems faced by the people’

CM accused of making hollow promises

Bhopal: Hundreds of CPI (M) activists courted arrest here on Tuesday accusing Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan of making hollow promises and asked him to under- stand the problems being faced by people in the State.

The activists, comprising women from various sectors including beedi making, construction, domestic industries and anganwadis, also assailed the ruling BJP government for its “‘insult-ing behaviour” towards women.

The protestors recalled atrocities against a Dalit women sarpanch Urmila Mehera in Narsinghpur district, who they said “is not being allowed to work in the village and being tortured. Government officials are also helping them (BJP workers)”, a party release said.

The procession, led by party’s State secretary Saroj Badal, was addressed by more than 22 women who came from across the State to narrate the plight of women in their respective areas.

Women workers from anganwadis accused the State government for not honouring the High Court order on providing minimum wages to them.

Describing the BJP Government in the State as a government of mere declarations, the women organisations associated to CPI (M) said the Chief Minister must understand the problems being faced by people as “he can not win the coming elections only by mobile SMSs or through hoardings in the city”.

Declaring that their agitation against the government will continue, the party release said that their agenda on Wednesday would be on the issue of tribals and party Lok Sabha MP Bajubal Riyan would lead the procession. -- PTI
