Regularise services of temporary conductors: transport staff

Staff Reporter

TIRUNELVELI: The Tirunelveli District Transport Workers’ Union, affiliated to the CITU, staged a dharna in front of the TNSTC at Vannarpet here on Tuesday pressing various demands.

The protesting TNSTC workers said services of the temporary conductors, who have worked for 240 days, should be regularised and their posts made permanent so that they can be given ‘duty number’.

The existing technical assistants vacancies in the TNSTC should be filled up by giving preference to the apprentices with the transport corporation as it would improve the public sector undertaking’s service.

Based on demand, the fleet should be strengthened.

Retirement benefits should be disbursed without further delay and the government should take care of the revamped pension scheme. CITU office-bearers R. Karumalaiyaan, P. Muthukrishnan, P. Manoharan, C. Krishnan, D. Kamaraj and M. Rajangam spoke.
