Campaign ends in Therlam
Correspondent
VIZIANAGARAM: Campaigning for the by-election to Therlam Assembly constituency came to a close on Tuesday evening. Tentu Lakshmi Naidu (TDP), Reddi Lakshmi Naidu (LSP), and two independents campaigned door-to-door, as all the contestants are political novices. Except, Tentu Lakshmi Naidu, all other candidates have no political background. The by-election was caused by the death of Tentu Jaya Prakash (TDP). The Congress is not contesting the election following an understanding with the TDP.
The district administration has made elaborate arrangements for the polling from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. on May 29. Already, men and material for 153 polling stations (34 each for men and women and 85 general) have been dispatched. The total number of voters is 1,38,858 (men: 67,282 and women: 71,576).
According to Bobbili Sub-Divisional Police Officer N. Sriramulu, 1,500 police personnel have been deployed at the polling stations and along the 17 routes for conducting the election.
