Infopark to provide 40,000 jobs

39 information technology companies function from the park at present


KOCHI: By 2011, by the time the Left Democratic Front completes its term, the total job opportunities in Infopark will touch the 40,000 mark, according to Siddharth Bhattacharya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Infopark.

Building complex with 15 lakh sq.ft area has come up in Infopark in the last two years. Till 2006, Infopark had a total space of 5 lakh sq.ft, Mr. Bhattacharya said in a special press release issued to the district office of the Public Relations Department in connection with the second anniversary of the LDF government.

With 20 lakh sq.ft getting ready in the next three years, an additional 35,000 job opportunities will be created.

At present, 39 information technology (IT) companies function from Infopark, employing more than 5,500 IT professionals, he said.

Infopark has attracted investments to the tune of Rs.416 crore in the last two years alone.

Around 2,000 IT professionals received job at the Infopark during the period.

Growth

Infopark registered a phenomenal growth during the 2007-’08 financial year, Mr. Bhattacharya said. Software exports during the same period increased from Rs.67 crore to Rs.225 crore.

The construction of the dedicated four-lane road having a length of 2.37 km and width of 19 metres is progressing at a fast pace.

Of the 5.50 lakh sq.ft space in the upcoming IT complex, 50,000 sq.ft will be dedicated to small, medium and local IT entrepreneurs.

Assistance from the Central Science and Technology Department is also expected for the construction of the Rs.95-crore building complex, the CEO said.

Expansion plans

About 168 acres, spread over Kunnathunadu and Puthen Cruz villages, are being acquired for the second phase expansion of the Infopark.

An IT complex of 12 lakh sq.ft is envisaged on this land, he said.

When the 9 lakh sq.ft IT complex being set up by Wipro Limited is fully ready, 8,000 IT professionals will receive jobs. An additional 8,000 jobs will be created with the completion of the first and second phase expansion of L&T Tech Park Limited.

With the commissioning of Leela Infopark, the construction of which has been completed, 3,500 IT professionals will get employment. The completion of the second phase expansion of Tata Consultancy spanning 12 lakh sq.ft will give jobs to 5,000 persons.

With IBS Software Services and Brigade Enterprises launching construction of IT complexes, more job opportunities will come in the way of IT professionals, Mr. Bhattacharya said in the statement.
