New Delhi: An eight-member delegation of the International Commission for Human Rights, Pakistan, on a goodwill visit to India, asked the Centre to furnish details of the 34 Pakistani prisoners at the Amritsar jail and sought permission to visit the jail. Mahnaz Chaudhary, chairperson, Women’s Wing of ICHR, told journalists here that their mission was to render all possible assistance to Pakistani prisoners in India. She said the delegation visited Amritsar and sought permission to meet the prisoners in jail but the Punjab government said it could not grant permission in view of a local holiday for panchayat polls. Asked about the present situation after the new government was formed in Pakistan, she said things had improved a lot and more was expected. Ms. Chaudhary said the delegation would meet political leaders and non-governmental organisations (NGOs). President of International Council of Jurists Adish C. Aggarwala said that a similar delegation had visited India in 2005. He said the ICJ had already demanded that the ousted judges in Pakistan to be re-instated.
