Naxalites kill watchman, blast rail track in Bihar

K. Balchand

They had called a bandh to protest arrest of supporters

The watchman’s throat was slit in public

They believed he was a police informer

PATNA: The CPI (Maoist) naxalites killed a watchman and blasted twin rail track disrupting train movement on the Jamalpur-Malda section while enforcing a north Bihar bandh on Tuesday.

The bandh was called to protest the arrest of about 100 naxalite supporters last week.

About 100 naxalites stormed the residence of watchman Subuk Paswan in Batwari village under Dharhara police station of Munger district on Monday night, tied his limbs, dragged him out to the street and slit his throat in public.

They accused him, in posters in the township, of being a police informer. They suspected that he was leaking information on the presence of their supporters undergoing training in the neighbouring forest, from where the police had nabbed some of them.

In the early hours of Tuesday, the naxalites blasted the Jamalpur-Malda track near Masudan station halting traffic for several hours.

The line has since been restored.
